Microseismic source/acoustic emission (MS/AE) localization method is crucial for predicting and controlling of potentially dangerous sources of complex structures. However, the locating errors induced by both the irregular structure and pre-measured velocity are poorly understood in existing methods. To meet the high-accuracy locating requirements in complex three-dimensional hole-containing structures, a velocity-free MS/AE source location method is developed in this paper. It avoids manual repetitive training by using equidistant grid points to search the path, which introduces A* search algorithm and uses grid points to accommodate complex structures with irregular holes. It also takes advantage of the velocity-free source location method. To verify the validity of the proposed method, lead-breaking tests were performed on a cubic concrete test specimen with a size of 10 cm × 10 cm × 10 cm. It was cut out into a cylindrical empty space with a size of ϕ6cm × 10 cm. Based on the arrivals, the classical Geiger method and the proposed method are used to locate lead-breaking sources. Results show that the locating error of the proposed method is 1.20 cm, which is less than 2.02 cm of the Geiger method. Hence, the proposed method can effectively locate sources in the complex three-dimensional structure with holes and achieve higher precision requirements.

Engineering 2020, Volume 6, Issue 1, Pages 68-76 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2019.07.024
In this study, a three-dimensional (3D) in-situ laser machining system integrating laser measurement and machining was built using a 3D galvanometer scanner equipped with a side-axis industrial camera. A line structured light measurement model based on a galvanometer scanner was proposed to obtain the 3D information of the workpiece. A height calibration method was proposed to further ensure measurement accuracy, so as to achieve accurate laser focusing. In-situ machining software was developed to realize time-saving and labor-saving 3D laser processing. The feasibility and practicability of this in-situ laser machining system were verified using specific cases. In comparison with the conventional line structured light measurement method, the proposed methods do not require light plane calibration, and do not need additional motion axes for 3D reconstruction; thus they provide technical and cost advantages. The in-situ laser machining system realizes a simple operation process by integrating measurement and machining, which greatly reduces labor and time costs.

The system includes four modules: 3D geological modeling, hydraulic structure modeling, engineering-geological analysis and design, and database management. The modeling modules offer the analysis-design module different kinds of 3D models. Then, comprehensive analyses and cooperative works among different specialities can be realized, such as 3D slitting analysis, treatment analysis of fundamental surfaces, arrangement analysis of underground structures, slope cutting analysis. It can offer technical supports to 3D design of hydraulic and hydroelectric engineering.

Strategic Study of CAE 2010, Volume 12, Issue 2, Pages 32-39
A three-dimensional numerical model for shallow flow based on a layer-integrated solution method is developed in this paper. The controlled equations are solved using an efficient operator-splitting finite element method on adaptive triangle grids. The experiment data in mending channel flow is selected to verify the proposed model. The simulated results are in satisfactory agreement with the experimental data. Therefore, the present 3D shallow flow model is a robust and efficient tool for simulating the shallow flow hydrodynamics.

Engineering 2023, Volume 24, Issue 5, Pages 84-93 doi: 10.1016/j.eng.2022.06.010
This paper presents a three-dimensional (3D)-atomic force microscopy (AFM) method based on magnetically driven (MD)-orthogonal cantilever probes (OCPs), in which two independent scanners with three degrees of freedom are used to achieve the vector tracking of a sample surface with a controllable angle. A rotating stage is integrated into the compact AFM system, which helps to achieve 360° omnidirectional imaging. The specially designed MD-OCP includes a horizontal cantilever, a vertical cantilever, and a magnetic bead that can be used for the mechanical drive in a magnetic field. The vertical cantilever, which has a protruding tip, can detect deep grooves and undercut structures. The design, simulation, fabrication, and performance analysis of the MD-OCP are described first. Then, the amplitude compensation and home positioning for 360° rotation are introduced. A comparative experiment using an AFM step grating verifies the ability of the proposed method to characterize steep sidewalls and corner details, with a 3D topography reconstruction method being used to integrate the images. The effectiveness of the proposed 3D-AFM based on the MD-OCP is further confirmed by the 3D characterization of a micro-electromechanical system (MEMS) device with microcomb structures. Finally, this technique is applied to determine the critical dimensions (CDs) of a microarray chip. The experimental results regarding the CD parameters show that, in comparison with 2D technology, from which it is difficult to obtain sidewall information, the proposed method can obtain CD information for 3D structures with high precision and thus has excellent potential for 3D micro–nano manufacturing inspection.

This paper presents a finite layer procedure for the consolidation analysis of layered soils using a cross isotropic elastic constitutive model. The program is first verified using two published results. Then using this program, the influences of cross isotropy on the consolidation behavior are analyzed. The results obtained using the cross isotropic elastic model are compared with results using isotropic elastic model. It is found that the cross isotropy has very large influences on the consolidation behavior. Curves of the average degree of consolidation are obtained and presented in the paper, which is useful for engineering practice.

The most promising strategies in tissue engineering involve the integration of a triad of biomaterials, living cells, and biologically active molecules to engineer synthetic environments that closely mimic the healing milieu present in human tissues, and that stimulate tissue repair and regeneration. To be clinically effective, these environments must replicate, as closely as possible, the main characteristics of the native extracellular matrix (ECM) on a cellular and subcellular scale. Photo-fabrication techniques have already been used to generate 3D environments with precise architectures and heterogeneous composition, through a multi-layer procedure involving the selective photocrosslinking reaction of a light-sensitive prepolymer. Cells and therapeutic molecules can be included in the initial hydrogel precursor solution, and processed into 3D constructs. Recently, photo-fabrication has also been explored to dynamically modulate hydrogel features in real time, providing enhanced control of cell fate and delivery of bioactive compounds. This paper focuses on the use of 3D photo-fabrication techniques to produce advanced constructs for tissue regeneration and drug delivery applications. State-of-the-art photo-fabrication techniques are described, with emphasis on the operating principles and biofabrication strategies to create spatially controlled patterns of cells and bioactive factors. Considering its fast processing, spatiotemporal control, high resolution, and accuracy, photo-fabrication is assuming a critical role in the design of sophisticated 3D constructs. This technology is capable of providing appropriate environments for tissue regeneration, and regulating the spatiotemporal delivery of therapeutics.

Strategic Study of CAE 2003, Volume 5, Issue 11, Pages 56-60
The path-planning algorithm of AUV in 3D seabed environment is studied. For 3D environment, the optimal paths are classified into three different types. The optimal paths of each type are obtained flexibly by using genetic algorithm, especially the incorporating of problem-specific knowledge and penalty function. Simulation results show the feasibility and reliability of the path-planning algorithm, which has considerable value on the safe navigation of AUV in seabed environment.
